Affordable Gardens & Landscapes is a family run, fully insured business based in Knottingley, and Altofts, the village about a mile north-west of Normanton, is one of the places we cover. We look after gardens here for homeowners, landlords and businesses, whether the job is a single clearance, a regular routine through the seasons or a new patio and fence.
Where we work in Altofts
We cover the whole village, Upper and Lower Altofts alike. That takes in Pope Street, where two terraced rows still stand in Lower Altofts, the part of the village that was also home to Silkstone Row, once the longest unbroken row of three-storey terraced houses in Europe, until it was demolished in 1978. It also takes in Church Road, home to the Methodist church and the Hebron; Lock Lane and the cricket ground; Wakefield Road, Greenfield Road and Wharfedale Drive. Altofts grew in the 1800s around Pope and Pearsons' West Riding Colliery, it is the village where the Elizabethan sea captain Martin Frobisher was born, and with the River Calder and the Aire and Calder Navigation close by, it has water and open countryside on its doorstep. That mix of terraced yards, family gardens and boundaries that back onto open land means each garden is looked at on its own terms.
