Horbury stands on a hill about three miles south-west of Wakefield and two miles south of Ossett, with the River Calder and the Calder and Hebble Navigation running through the wide valley below. It's a town of sloping streets, sandstone houses and some surprisingly large gardens, and we cover all of it. That includes the old centre around Queen Street, High Street, Church Street and Tithe Barn Street, overlooked by John Carr's Church of St Peter and St Leonard, the Victorian roads of New Road, New Street and Westfield Road, the terraces around Manor Road, and down the hill to Horbury Bridge and Horbury Junction.
Wherever you are in the town, we can help with:
- Garden clearance and tidy ups in Horbury: overgrown gardens and yards cut back and cleared, with the waste taken away
- Regular garden maintenance in Horbury: grass cutting, hedge trimming, weeding and autumn leaf clearing for homes, landlords and businesses
- Fencing in Horbury: back garden and boundary fencing, including stepped fences for sloping plots
- Landscaping in Horbury: Indian stone patios, paths, turf, artificial grass, gravel, driveways and complete makeovers
Much of the centre lies inside the Horbury Conservation Area, first designated in 1973 and reviewed by Wakefield Council in 2026. Trees there are protected, and the stone boundary walls and old gateposts count as part of the town's character. We bear that in mind on every job within the boundary, and we'll say so early if anything you're planning might need the council's agreement.
The town is well off for green space. Carr Lodge Park, bought by the old Horbury Urban District Council in 1936, still shows medieval ridge and furrow in its grass and has a Grade II listed walled garden, while the Memorial Park on Westfield Road, opened in 1904 as Sparrow Park, is lined with mature trees.
